Game-Design: How should the player die?
Think about loosing is more important, that think about winning
This is something that helped me a lot to make the focus much clearer, when doing designs of single game-design situation.
How can and should the player loose the game?
We game-desginers tent to think a lot about what to do in a game and how to win. How the user journey is in general.
But thinking about loosing is not only very concrete, but it also help the player itself to overcome obstacles. And this then makes the experience rewarding, because it is a learning experience. Overcoming obstacles = Dopamin for the player. Game-Loop – you get the idea.
When thinking about loosing, you can make very simple games to a engaging and rewarding experience.
